Hometown: Atlanta, GA, United States
Position: Vice President of Marketing and Medical Affairs
"To be successful, it’s important to set realistic goals, have a great support system and maintain a good life balance. Sometimes things don’t work out as you’d hoped (diabetes especially), so you’ve got to learn from those setbacks and move on."
Matt Vogel is the Vice President of Marketing and Medical Affairs for Team Novo Nordisk. A healthcare marketing professional with more than a decade of experience leading strategy and product development for global brands, Vogel is responsible for all marketing, PR, social media and sponsorship activities at Team Novo Nordisk. He also leads the medical team of physicians, nurses, dietitians and diabetes educators for the organization.

While Vogel joined Team Novo Nordisk in 2013, his ties to the organization date back to 2007 when he was a member of its historic Race Across America team. He was one of eight cyclists, all with type 1 diabetes, who won the grueling 3,000 mile transcontinental race and set a new world record of five days, 15 hours and 43 minutes.

Vogel officially joined Team Novo Nordisk’s front office after spending five years with Abbott Laboratories in their Management Development Program. He held positions at both the company’s Nutrition and Diabetes Care global headquarters in Chicago, IL and Alameda, CA. In his most recent post, Vogel served at the Abbott affiliate in Melbourne, Australia where he led a variety of marketing programs and rebranding campaigns, including the launch of the FreeStyle InsuLinx blood glucose meter, among others.

Prior to Abbott, Vogel oversaw insulin pump sales and field training to physicians and diabetes educators for Smith Medical, a leading global provider of medical devices in San Francisco, CA. During his time there, he was one of the company’s top-selling insulin pump reps.

Vogel was born and raised near Denver, CO and had an active childhood playing competitive sports, riding bikes, skiing and camping. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a freshman in high school and with the support of his family, learned to manage his condition while continuing to compete in a number of sports.

He is an alumnus of the University of Colorado and holds an MBA from the University of California Davis. Vogel and his wife Stephanie currently reside near Team Novo Nordisk headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
