Get To Know the Team Novo Nordisk Athletes: McKenna McKee

29 May 2020

How did you get into the sport?

My parents rode bikes, and growing up, I’ve always been around bikes. I guess you could say it runs in my blood.

Outside of racing bikes, what sports do you enjoy?

I love surfing and kickboxing.

Who are you off the bike?

Some would say I’m fun, loving, and kind. I’m never afraid to make people laugh even if it’s just me who’s laughing. But I’m never not thinking about cycling.

When did you first hear about Team Novo Nordisk?

I heard about Team Novo Nordisk from a family friend.

What were your biggest memories of Talent ID camp?

Prezmek (devo team rider) and I were trying to get our laundry out of the laundry room at the hotel, but it was late and the room was locked, so we had to ask the front desk to let us in. Morgan had made strict rules about curfew. By the time I got all my laundry and we got back to our rooms, I had two minutes left before curfew.

Where is home for you? Who do you live with there?

Portland, Oregon. I live with my mom, dad, and younger sister.

What year are you in high school? What are your favorite subjects? What are your least favorite?

I am class of 2022. My favorite subjects are Medial Science and Ap Micro & Macroeconomics. My least favorite class would have to be math just because it has never come easy for me.

Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?

We have five love birds named Blu, Jewels, Fruit Loop, and Banana. Most were named by my younger sister.

What does training look like for you right now?

My coach, Kirk Whiteman, has me training six days a week. Most of the time, I’m on the trainer or on the road. If I’m really lucky, I can go out and ride on the track. When I’m not riding, I do weight training.
