Race: Ironman 70.3 World Championships
Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
Result: 7th in Age Group
On September 10, Team Novo Nordisk triathlete, Andreas Petz, powered to a top 10 in his age group at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Below, the Danish Ironman, diagnosed with diabetes at age 28, breaks down his epic achievement.
From Andreas Petz
“My goal leading up to race was to test myself against the best in the world in my age group. And the course in Chattanooga was a tough one.
The swim in the Tennessee River was very challenging, since a big part off the race was upstream. The bike course had over 3000 feet of elevation gain, and it was the toughest I’ve ever done. I really suffered on the climb up to Lookout Mountain, but I managed to pace myself wisely and save energy for the hard half Marathon finishing the race. The run was where I gained on my competitors and was able to finish the race strong.
I’m proud to prove you still can be among the best in the world, even when you’re living with diabetes!”
