Race: Tour of Hainan/ Stage 4
Start/Finish: Haikou-Wenchang – Xinglong
Distance: 145.8 kilometers
Overview: Team Novo Nordisk fought hard to get into the breakaway on Thursday’s Stage 4 at the Tour of Hainan. While they were unable to escape on the flat 145.8-kilometer stage, they raced well through the wind and rain. Julien Antomarchi (Team La Pomme Marseille 13) sprinted to the win two seconds ahead of the bunch. All Team Novo Nordisk riders finished in the main group with Andrea Peron (ITA) finishing as the team’s best-placed rider in 21st place.
“The riders tried all day to get into the break,” Team Novo Nordisk Sport Director Pavel Cherkasov said. “In the end, it came down to a sprint finish with all our boys finishing in the main group.”
Results: Julien Antomarchi (Team La Pomme Marseille 13) took the win ahead of Andrea Palini (Lampre-Merida) and Niccolo Bonifazio (Lampre-Merida).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team, continues racing at the Tour of Hainan on Friday. The 192.8-km Stage 5 begins in Wanning and features two categorized climbs and three intermediate sprints before finishing in Sanya.
