Race: Tour of Hainan/ Stage 2
Start/Finish: Chengmai to Tunchang-Ding’An–Haikou
Distance: 207.2 kilometers
Overview: Tour of Hainan’s second stage was fairly flat, humid and hot. Team Novo Nordisk’s Chris Williams (AUS) raced into a break with only one other rider, Bai Li Jun (Giant-Champion System), 45km before the finish, but they got caught with 30km to go. The race ended along flat roads into Haikou in a bunch sprint and most of the Team Novo Nordisk riders were lined up to help sprinter Andrea Peron (ITA), who crossed the finish line 17th. Italian Nicolo Bonifazio beat out the rest of the sprinters for first place and is also the race’s current overall leader.
Results: Nicolo Bonifazio (Lampre-Merida) finished first, followed by Wouter Wippert (Drapac Professional Cycling) in second and Andrea Palini (Lampre-Merida) in third.
