A tough day at GP Miguel Indurain as TNN look ahead to Belgium

Sports Director, Gennady Mikhaylov:

“We knew beforehand what we were in for today. GP Miguel Indurain is well known to be a hard race and when we woke up to more rain and snow this morning we thought it was going to be brutal. Fortunately by the start, conditions improved slightly and apart from a few showers the snow held off, but it was still cold and even with the final climb removed it was a very difficult day.

David, Peter and Sam all did well to hang in there, and I’m pleased with how they fought today. We were too far off the front group on the last circuit and the late attacks split things up pretty quickly so the descent to the line was the key place to be in the end.

On to Belgium now for more hard racing at Scheldeprijs next Wednesday. There’s been snow up there too the last few days, so today has been good preparation!”

David Lozano (ESP)

“This was my fifth GP Indurain, and it never gets easier! The weather today added some extra challenges – we started with light rain, got some snow and although the sun did appear, the strong wind and cold temperature have accompanied us throughout the whole race.

The last climb was all about position. Peter (Kusztor) and pushed to get into a good place to finish with the front group, but we couldn’t make it. It’s a pity but we knew today would have been challenging and we want to keep the morale high and bring our focus now onto the next race.”
