TOUGH STAGE OPENER IN SPAIN AT VUELTA ASTURIAS

Sport Director Massimo Podenzana (ITA)

“When you have a guy of the caliber of Quintana soloing to victory on the opening stage, you know that the level of the race is very high and we did what we could today.”

“David and Peter both hung in there for as long as possible, but the race was split into so many different groups.”

“Tomorrow’s another hard day and we will try to get up the road in the breakaway and show ourselves and everyone else what’s possible with diabetes.”

LOZANO SHY OF THE TOP 30 IN A VERY TOUGH STAGE TWO AT VUELTA ASTURIAS

Sport Director, Massimo Podenzana (ITA)

“If yesterday was hard, today was harder. Over 200km of route crossing several climbs including a second category climb, another one of third category and the last one, less than 15km from the finish line, of first category.

The guys worked together to help David and Peter. The second half of the race was very challenging, David found himself alone and did his best to finish in a good position.”

David Lozano (ESP)

“Today was very very tough. The last climb was brutal and didn’t have that extra push to stay with the front group. I felt better than yesterday and the team did a good job in supporting me and Peter.

The legs today were good, my form is growing day after day. I’m ready to give it all tomorrow!”

LOZANO FINISHES 44TH ON GC AT VUELTA ASTURIAS

David Lozano (ESP)

“Today was a good stage for me, up and downs all the way with about 3500m altitude. I felt well after yesterday and I was familiar with the final climb, Alto de Naranco. I knew what to expect but I did miss the punch to stay with the front group on the climb.”

“I finished 44th on the General Classification but I know I can do better. Now I’ll focus on recover a bit and prepare to my next race: Tour of Hongrie.

Sport Director, Massimo Podenzana (ITA)

“We came to Asturias expecting a tough race, and so it was. The level was very high with fast pace all the way.”

“This race was a great preparation for the upcoming ones. We look ahead now to Tour de Hongrie next week, where last year David came very close to bringing home the King of Mountain jersey. We’ll look for a podium there to show the world that we can compete against the best and diabetes does not hold us back.”
