Team Novo Nordisk Searches for Luck in Argentina

Juana Koslay, Argentina — Team Novo Nordisk’s Martijn Verschoor sprinted to 16th place on a crash-riddled day at the Tour de San Luis, while teammate Charles Planet withdrew from the race following a crash.

“The pace was so fast from the start and then we experienced really strong winds,” Verschoor said. “I had to fight for my position all day and was happy to miss out on all of the crashes.”

Wednesday’s Stage 3 of the Tour de San Luis began in Concaran and featured two intermediate sprints before ending in Juana Koslay. The 176.3-kilometer stage saw six riders escape and earn a gap of three and a half minutes before getting caught heading to Juana Koslay. Fernando Gaviria (Team Colombia) won the bunch sprint, while Daniel Diaz (Funvic – Sao Jose dos Campos) held onto the overall leader’s jersey.

Results: Fernando Gaviria (Team Colombia) sprinted to the win ahead of Mark Cavendish (Etixx-Quick Step) and Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida.

Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team, continues racing at the Tour de San Luis on Thursday with Stage 4, a 142.5-km race that begins in Villa Dolores in the Cordoba region. The stage features two intermediate sprints and one categorized climb before finishing atop the Category 1 Alto de El Amago, which features gradients of 11.5 percent.
