Race: Tour de San Luis, Stage 4
Start/Finish: Villa Dolores (Córdoba Province)/ Alto El Amago, Argentina
Alto El Amago, Argentina — Thursday’s Stage 4 of the Tour de San Luis was a 142.5-kilometer race that saw four riders escape nearly immediately following the neutral section. The quintet gained seven minutes while the peloton unsuccessfully tried to reel them back in. The final climb had the riders ascending nearly 800 meters with gradients as steep as 11.5 percent. On the slopes, Daniel Diaz (Funvic-Sao Jose dos Campos) attacked, shattering the breakaway. He held on to solo to the win and extended his overall lead.
“Today was the first day that I really noticed the heat. It just kept getting hotter and hotter with the heat beating off the pavement,” Team Novo Nordisk’s David Lozano said. “ It was nice that there were finally fewer crashes and no one from our team went down, which is really good.”
Results: Daniel Diaz (Funvic-Sao Jose dos Campos) won ahead of Alex Diniz (Funvic- Sao Jose dos Campos) and Rodolfo Torres (Colombia National Team).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team, continues racing at the Tour de San Luis on Friday with Stage 5, a 17.4-km individual time trial starting and finishing in San Luis.
