"Diabetes will only slow you down if you let it."

Since age two, Brais Dacal has been obsessed with bikes. The Spaniard barely remembers a time when he didn’t want to ride all day, every day and as fast as possible. While reading a Spanish diabetes magazine, he learned about Javier Megias and a team racing with diabetes, Team Novo Nordisk.

Dacal was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was seven years old and initially was told him that he would need to lead an easy life and not push himself. When he first heard about Team Novo Nordisk, Dacal doubted his athletic skills or diabetes management were strong enough to join the team. It was this lack of knowledge regarding diabetes management that motivated him to write a letter to the team asking for help. After exchanging emails, he was invited to join the project.

Through Team Novo Nordisk’s development team, Dacal has developed as a rider and as someone with diabetes. Now in this fifth year with the team, Dacal says having access to some of the best coaches and medical team has allowed him to grow into the athlete he only dreamed of becoming.

Dacal’s other obsession in life is music, and he loves traveling and living an adventurous life.
