Team Novo Nordisk Sports Director Pavel Cherkasov raced professionally, both in road racing and mountain biking, for more than 10 years before taking on a director role.

Born in Bryansk, Russia, Cherkasov began cycling in 1984. He raced on the Russian Road National Team from 1988-1993 and was the Junior Team Time Trial World Champion in 1990. He signed his first professional contract after winning the Giro delle Regioni (Italy) in 1993.

Shortly after, he began competing in mountain bike where he excelled in cross-country and short-track racing. The former Russian national cross-country champion won the NORBA STXC Series (2000), Mercury Tour (2000) and Stowe Bike Club Time Trials (2001), and was runner-up at the NORBA XC Series (2000). In 2000, Cherkasov was a member of the Russian Summer Olympics team.

Cherkasov began directing in 2002 with Trek-Volkswagen. He joined Team Novo Nordisk in 2013.
