Race: Post Danmark Rundt/ Stage 5
Start/Finish: Middelfart, Denmark
Distance: 14.8 km
Middelfart, Denmark — After a 100-kilometer morning road race, Team Novo Nordisk raced against the clock in an afternoon 14.8-km time trail at the Post Danmark Rundt.
The most noticeable aspect of Saturday’s Stage 5 of the Post Danmark Rundt were the heavy winds. The challenging weather conditions made for a highly technical race against the clock around Middelfart. Alexey Lutsenko (Astana Pro Team) had the fastest time in 18:37, with Team Novo Nordisk’s Chris Williams finishing 2:32 behind. Manuele Boaro (Tinkoff Saxo) held onto the overall leader’s jersey.
“The wind made this evening’s time trial extremely demanding,” Team Novo Nordisk’s Stephen Clancy said. “We all made it through without any real issues and are motivated to make one last mark on the Post Danmark Rundt at Sunday’s final stage, especially because it goes through the home of Novo Nordisk.”
The Post Danmark Rundt concludes on Sunday with a 175-km road race. The stage is exceptional for Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team, because the race course runs through the Novo Nordisk insulin production factory in Kalundborg before finishing in Frederiksberg outside of Copenhagen.
