Team Novo Nordisk’s Top Race Videos of Spring 2018

12 June 2018

Team Novo Nordisk kicked off 2018 spring racing at Milan-San Remo, where Frenchman Charles Planet showed the Changing Diabetes jersey for 250km in the day’s main breakaway. This spring, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team also made appearances in Japan, Croatia, Spain and Belgium, sharing our mission to inspire, educate and empower everyone affected by diabetes along the way.

Check out our top 5 race videos from Spring 2018.

5) Tour of Croatia, stage 6 – Andrea Peron

It starts out with a long, flat, nervous finishing sprint, then spends the week riding up and down the mountains and coast of Croatia. Team Novo Nordisk shone all week across the country, and when they arrived in Samobor for the final stage into Zagreb, a whole bus full of young fans from the local diabetes community came out to visit and cheer them on!

4)  Szlakiem Walk Majora Hubala, Prologue – Andrea Peron

A new race for the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team, this time in Poland, and the lean and scrappy peloton that lines up for the Szlakiem Walk, the “Fighting Route” fought by a Polish Calvary officer at first against the Russians, then against the Germans in the forested hills north of Krakow. On day one the organizers set up a points criterium, with sprints every lap for the 25 teams that started.

3) Vuelta Aragon, stage 3 – Fabio Calabria

Spanish mountains ! Team Novo Nordisk joined the peloton in Spain in April to race into the snow-capped Pyrenees on a twisting mountain road high above a roaring mountain river. So much scenery, so much landscape, so much climbing ! The spectacular Vuelta Aragon roams all week around Zaragoza, and on the last day it gave us an epic stage full of widescreen wonders.

2) Tour of Estonia, stage 2 – Charles Planet

Teamwork is what makes professional cycling come alive on the screen. At the Tour of Estonia it was the conscious, deliberate collective work by Team Novo Nordisk that drove the race at the front of the peloton. On a circuit race around Tartu, Estonia’s sleepy riverside University town near the Russian border, Charles Planet and David Lozano paired up at the end of 18 laps following the hard work done by Andrea Peron and Umberto Poli over the course of four hours. Teamwork drove them to 2 Top-10s , a first ever finishing combo and a sparkling result worthy of its place on our list –

1) Milan-San Remo – Charles Planet

Mother nature got the upper hand at Milano-Sanremo start this year. Cold and foggy, with a lot of rain at the start. Not a lot of optimism for 300km and more than seven hours of World Tour racing with the top cycling squads in the world. But Charles Planet made it happen, sliding into a wet breakaway almost immediately, and then facing into a buffering headwind all the way across the broad fields of Lombardy, the flat and swirling river Po and the steady rise up into Liguria before plunging down into the sunshine and blue skies awaiting on the Mediterranean Coast.
