You might have known that Pro rider David Lozano is an11-time Spanish national champion in mountain-bike and cyclocross racing. But did you know that David’s father also has type 1 diabetes and that one day David would like to restore an old bike as sculpture?
Below, the Catalan rider shares a few things you may not know in this edition of TNN Talks.
Favorite food when traveling:
I like to eat the local food, but especially meat or pasta.
Favorite food from your home country:
We have really good food in Spain, so I can’t pick just one, but I would say Salmorejo or Jamon Iberico.
I don’t have a favorite artist or band, but I have a favorite radio station, Flaix FM, and I listen to it everywhere.
Do you use a pen or pump?
I use pen. I’ve used a pump before, and it’s good too. But everyone uses different things, and it’s important to use the one you and your health care team feel more comfortable with.
Anyone else in your family with diabetes?
My father has had type 1 diabetes since he was 8 years old, so that’s over 40 years with diabetes now.
“Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”
Last book you read:
“Run Or Die” by Kilian Jornet.
Kilian is an ultra marathon runner from Spain, and the way he approaches the mountains and his training is impressive.
Worst way someone has mispronounced your name:
Anytime someone outside of Spain says my name it sounds weird, but at many of the Asian races I’ve been to it seems like they have a hard time pronouncing “LO-ZA-NO”.
Any pre-race rituals?
I like to prepare my clothes just before the race to make the correct choice with the weather and clothing gear, and also I need to make sure my Pioneer cycling computer is 100% charged before the start.
Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders are the most impressive races to me.
Biggest hero in life:
My parents. They are true fighters and they deserve everything.
Favorite hobby off the bike:
I like to race my car, spend time at home with my wife and do some hiking with the boss of my home Arya, my little dog.
Night owl or early riser:
Both!!!! I like to start training early and I like to have late dinner…typical Spanish, with siesta for sure.
Favorite ice cream flavor:
Favorite spot to get coffee:
Favorite place you’ve visited:
New Zealand and Canada.
Country you’d most like to holiday in:
USA. It offers you all the possibilities because is huge, so it’s always a good choice to go to the states.
Spanish, Catalan, English and Italian.
“There is no shortcut to anywhere worth going.”
Top “Bucket List” Item:
I’d like to restore an old bike and have it in the living room as a sculpture.
