Race: Tour of China II, Stage 2
Start/Finish: ShaoYang/ShaoYang, China
Distance: 131 kilometers
ShaoYang, China — Team Novo Nordisk’s Stephen Clancy sits 13th overall following Tuesday’s Stage 2 of the Tour of China II.
Following a long transfer day, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team raced aggressively on the 131-kilometer circuit race around ShaoYang. Clancy, James Glasspool and Chris Williams all featured in separate breakaways throughout the 10-lap race. All breaks were reeled in before a sprint finish with Nicolas Marini (Nippo-Vini Fantini) taking the win.
“It was another very fast paced race with many breakaway attempts, but each break only stayed away for a short amount of time. The peloton always responded immediately and didn’t let the breaks exceed 30 seconds, ” Team Novo Nordisk Sport Director Pavel Cherkasov said. “James was very active today despite his crash on Stage 1 and Chris kept trying all day. Stephen, who also crashed on Stage 1, was still recovering, but he didn’t lose any time today and held on to a top 15 place overall.”
Results: Nicolas Marini (Nippo-Vini Fantini) sprinted to the win ahead of Mattia Gavazzi (Amore & Vita-Selle SMP) and Jos Koop (CCN Cycling Team).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, continues racing at the Tour of China II on Wednesday with a 127.8-km circuit race around ShaoShan.
