Race: Tour of China II, Stage 3
Start/Finish: ShaoShan/ShaoShan, China
Distance: 129 kilometers
ShaoShan, China — Team Novo Nordisk’s Stephen Clancy is 18th overall following a fast stage filled with multiple attacks and breakaways at Tour of China II.
Today’s stage took the riders through the streets of ShaoShan, China in a nine-lap circuit that saw the group split by numerous breakaway attempts, none of which managed to stay away for the finish. Team Novo Nordisk continued to race aggressively with Chris Williams (AUS), Ben Dilley (USA), Gerd de Keijzer (NED) and James Glasspool (AUS) all riding in various breakaways throughout the day. The entire squad came together in the last 5 kilometers to position Glasspool for a chance in the bunch sprint, but Nicolas Marini (Nippo-Vini Fantini) crossed the line first with Glasspool finishing 20th.
“We are continuing to see many hungry teams and many attacks and breakaways in this race. Chris Williams is doing a fantastic job covering the breaks and rode in several of them today. While Stephen is still recovering from his crash, we’re happy he remains in the top 20 overall. We’ll continue to ride aggressively and hope for more results tomorrow,” said Team Novo Nordisk Sport Director Pavel Cherkasov.
Results: Nicolas Marini (Nippo-Vini Fantini) sprinted to the win ahead of Boris Shpilevsky (RTS-Santic Racing Team) and Mattia Gavazzi (Amore & Vita-Selle SMP).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, continues racing tomorrow at the Tour of China II on Stage 4, which runs 136.3 kilometers from Chenzhou to Zixing.
