Break Outfoxes Peloton to Take Stage 4 Vuelta Independencia

25 February 2015

Race: Vuelta Independencia Nacional Republica Dominicana, Stage 4

Start/Finish: Samana – San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic

Distance: 136 kilometers

San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic: Stage 4 of the Vuelta Indepedencia was aggressive from the start with multiple breakaway attempts taking place in the first 30 kilometers and Team Novo Nordisk’s David Lozano fought hard to mark each one. An eight-man break eventually formed and gained an advantage of two minutes over the peloton and stayed intact for the remaining 136 km despite an uphill grind to the finish. At the finish it was Yannick Muyer (Team Bike Aid) who out-kicked his breakaway companions for the win. The peloton charged to the line over two minutes later with Team Novo Nordisk’s top finisher, David Lozano taking 14th place on the day.

“Today was a crazy stage from the first kilometer with lots of attacks,” said Lozano, “I was covering all of the early attacks but eventually I just had to ride with the main group. I’m a little tired from the past few days, but I want to try my best tomorrow on the climb.”

Results: Yannick Muyer (Team Bike Aid) took the win with Xavier Nieves (Tachira-Concafe) finishing second, and Bobby Sweeting (Team Smart Stop) in third.

Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling squad, continues racing tomorrow in the Dominican Republic on stage 5, a hilly 131-km route from Moca to Constanza.
