Armitt climbs well on Queen Stage in Sardegna
28 February 2026
Once again, Glaswegian Hamish Armitt showed his talent on the climbs for Team Novo Nordisk, producing another positive performance on today’s Queen stage of the Giro di Sardegna.
Over 3,000 meters of climbing awaited the peloton on today’s Queen stage in Sardegna that started on the coast in Arbatax and headed up and inland to the UNESCO world heritage site of Nuoro.
The first climb of over 20km was paced regularly before the race started to explode over the other side. Armitt had the best legs of the world’s first all diabetes professional cycling team and held his own in the bunch.
“I had great legs today and felt really good on the climbs,” began Armitt. “My problem was the descents and I know it’s an area I need to improve on. I kept making back into the group, but then losing my place and coming back.”
“Spending energy like that is not good and with 30km to go my group had become the second group and at that point some of the other guys stopped chasing. I had still the energy to finish well in Nuoro and with one more day to go we want to end on a positive note and try help Filippo tomorrow for the final in Olbia.”
