Last race of the season for Team Novo Nordisk at Japan Cup

16 October 2025

A successful 2025 season comes to a close for Team Novo Nordisk in Japan this weekend as the world’s first and only all diabetes professional cycling team line up at the Utsunomiya Japan Cup looking to support Spanish climber David Lozano in one of his favorite races on the calendar.

It’s no secret that the Japan Cup is a special race for us,” began Lozano. “Traditionally we end our season here and it’s always more of a celebration than a race. A celebration of everything we have achieved throughout the year that we share with Novo Nordisk here in Japan and its always a great experience and a wonderful way to share our message.”

Czech sprinter Matyas Kopecky and Italian Filippo Ridolfo provide strong support for Lozano alongside climbers Antonio Polga and Hamish Armitt with British stalwart Sam Brand completing the team for the 32nd edition.

Since 2010 the racing is split over two days of events with Saturday’s downtown criterium opening the action ahead of Sunday’s road race around the stunning circuits of Utsunomiya Forest Park, both days usually see packed crowds that make the race one of the most exciting on the calendar.

Here we are at our last race of the 2025 season and what a season it has been for us!” Said General Manager Vassili Davidenko. “We’ve had a successful year with many highlights and being able to end our calendar at the Utsunomiya Japan Cup will be a highlight in itself.”

Japan Cup is a unique race and a unique experience, the fans reaction and Novo Nordisk support we receive always blows me away and we need to show ourselves one more time at the weekend. The guys need to leave everything on the road on Sunday and end the season in the best way possible.”
