RaceDanish CX Nationals

Start/Finish: Odder, Denmark

Distance: 13 kilometers

Odder, Denmark Team Novo Nordisk cyclocross rider Thomas Nørup earned his third consecutive Danish CX Championship on Sunday, topping the podium in Odder. Below, Thomas recaps his epic win.

Thomas Nørup:

“Sub-zero temperatures had frozen the ground the night before, and as the sun came up and temperatures rose, the course become more slippery and muddy.

I took the lead right from the start, to try and put some pressure on on the technical off-camper sections. If the other guys had anything, they could always close the gap in the power sections. But they never came back, and by the second lap I was ahead by more than 45 seconds.

To avoid mistakes, I took the foot off the gas a little bit as the course got more and more slippery, but I was be able to navigate the sandpits and bunnyhops safely.

This winter has been really amazing for me, riding in the elite class as an Masters rider! In almost all my races, I finished in top 10, with a couple of podiums.

Next, I’ll try and defend my 3rd place overall in the Elite Class at the national Danish Postnord CX Cup, before switching all my focus towards the world’s most prestigious MTB stage race, Cape Epic in South Africa, in March, where I’ll try to go for the Masters podium!”
