Team Novo Nordisk excited to race on home soil at Maryland Classic

03 September 2025

For American UCI ProTeam Team Novo Nordisk the Maryland Cycling Classic is the only opportunity to fully race at home in 2025 and as such it will be a special, unique day of racing on the streets of Baltimore this Saturday, a homecoming not only for cycling, but also for the diabetes community that has been a part of this journey since the first days of Team Type 1.

Czech star Matyas Kopecky and in form Italian Filippo Ridolfo will lead the team alongside experienced veterans Andrea Peron and David Lozano with the quartet expected to impress in the team’s only US race of the season.

“We have a strong line up for the Maryland Cycling Classic and on recent form and results we feel confident about a strong showing on Saturday,” said General Manager Vassili Davidenko. “This is our only American race of the season, and I can’t stress enough how important this is for Team Novo Nordisk and our community. This is where our story began, everyone knows us, our mission and we need to give our all to get the best result possible.”

“There’s been a one-year break since the last edition due to unfortunate circumstances, but the new parcours downtown is every bit as challenging as the previous one and I’m expecting an exciting race. Matyas, Filippo Andrea and David will need to support each other to get to the deep end of the race in a strong position. We expect the WorldTour teams to make it a hard race and we need to stay awake and near the front.”

With the change in route bringing a new dimension to the race and added excitement around the downtown circuits, the challenge however remains a tough one with a hilly course and 172.8km to take on.

We’re an American team and its a big deal for us to be back racing in the US,” said Peron. “I’ve been with the team a long time and I have great memories of the races we used to do in America like California, Colorado, Utah and even though the landscape has changed now we’re really excited to be racing Maryland Classic at the weekend.”

The line up is completed by Italian Antonio Polga, Scot Hamish Armitt and Frenchman Anton Muller who will all be taking part in Maryland for the first time.
