Team Novo Nordisk gears up for tough Belgian semi-classics

20 May 2026

Team Novo Nordisk set to tackle back-to-back semi-classics in Belgium this weekend, with the Grand Prix Criquielion on May 24 and the Antwerp Port Epic/Sels Trophy on May 25. General manager Vassili Davidenko expects a challenging double-header, calling it an opportunity for the team’s younger riders to gain valuable experience while regaining race rhythm ahead of the Tour of Estonia.

“We’re expecting a tough couple of days racing at GP Criquielion and Antwerp Port Epic,” said Vassili Davidenko. “Back to back semi classics in Belgium will not only provide valuable experience for our younger guys, but also help them regain some rhythm before we head into the Tour of Estonia shortly after.”

The Grand Prix Criquielion, a 205km race from Ath to Lessines, is known for its cold, wet, and often muddy conditions. Last year’s edition saw Team Novo Nordisk finish just outside the top ten after a grueling 200km effort. This year, the team will look to build on that resilience, with a lineup featuring a mix of rising stars and experienced riders.

The Antwerp Port Epic/Sels Trophy is a 182km race that combines the Antwerp Harbor and Polder areas, featuring 32km of gravel and 24km of cobblestones spread over 42 sectors. This terrain demands both physical power and tactical acumen, making it a perfect proving ground for Team Novo Nordisk’s riders.

For the team, this weekend is about more than results. It’s an opportunity for younger riders to gain experience, test their limits, and inspire the next generation of cyclists living with diabetes.

“We are fortunate to receive great support in Belgium from our community and our sponsors, and it’s up to us to continue to inspire and make them proud,” said Davidenko.

As the team lines up in Belgium, the focus is clear: race hard, learn, and drive change.
