Team Novo Nordisk go with youth at Tour of Hellas
04 May 2026
The world’s first all diabetes professional cycling team is taking the opportunity to field a young and promising squad at this week’s five-day Tour of Hellas with Team Novo Nordisk looking to reward recent positive performances by Australians Donovan Mackie and Hayden Stevens.
Mackie, only eighteen and already signed to the TNN pro team has been racing with the Development team throughout the spring and goes into Greece after recent top tens in the Tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belgrade Banjaluka. While compatriot Stevens, also eighteen, started his season brightly in March and is back racing after an unfortunate crash suffered at the Tour of Rhodes.
“The form is coming along after a pretty tough start to the season,” said Mackie. “I’m glad to be in a position where I can ride the pointy end of a race again. In Greece I’ll be looking to learn as much from the team as possible and take more experience with me for the coming races.”
“The most challenging aspect of the season has been adapting to the length of the races, as it’s much longer than juniors. It’s still something I’m adapting to but working closely with the team has helped to get the most out of my training.”
Both Mackie and Stevens have bright futures ahead and will be joined by fellow Aussie Bailey McDonald and French pair Lucas Dauge and Lucas Terrier with British development rider Alex Pritchard completing the line up.
“We have high expectations for some of our younger riders,” said General Manager Vassilii Davidenko. “That includes Donovan and Lucas, while for our development team riders the Tour of Hellas is another chance for them to gain experience racing at a high level. The racing will be aggressive and competitive in Greece as always and this is a good opportunity for us to send a young team there.”
“Donovan had some excellent results racing in Bosnia and Serbia recently – it’s a hard racing style out there and achieving consistent top tens shows he’s moving in the right direction. We want to see more of that in Greece from all the guys.”
Five days and close to 900km of racing will take the teams across the ancient Hellenic lands from the stunning coastlines over the hilly interior with a challenging summit finish atop Mount Parnitha on stage four before a circuitous finale around Syntagma Square in central Athens.
