PROFILE
Thomas Chang is the first Type 2 Team Novo Nordisk ambassador and 2024 marks his fourth year as part of the team. His life changed forever when he was 41-years-old, a routine physical turned into a warning to change his lifestyle, lose weight and dramatically alter his diet. A year later and his doctor’s fears were confirmed, Chang was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
Not long after, Chang’s daughter Sydney was born and in his own words, “she became my motivation to control my diabetes and live a healthy lifestyle.” Together with his wife Bonnie, they live and work in San Francisco, California and he has been associated with Team Novo Nordisk since the team’s inception.
Chang boasts a strong racing pedigree from his college days at MIT with one of his proudest achievements being that he never finished outside of the top 10 in any collegiate race he entered despite not having the support of a team.
Now 60, rediscovering the love and drive on the bike has been the road back into activity and Chang trains regularly and competes in Gran Fondo events across the world including the challenging Marmotte in the French Alps.
Away from the bike and sports, Chang has designed and built two houses and works full time in the high-tech industry.
