Japan Cup closes epic season for Team Novo Nordisk

19 October 2025

One of Team Novo Nordisk’s most successful seasons since its inception ended at the Utsunomiya Japan Cup today with Spanish climber David Lozano once again showing his experience and class in the hilly one day race.

With 144 kilometers spread over 14 laps of the classic forest circuit and the climb qnd technical descent making the whole race a test of skill stamina. Each circuit was an elimination round as the race split early with casualties every lap, David held on with teammates Antonio Polga and Sam Brand riding strongly in support beside him and all three finishing close together.

It’s really a great feeling to come to Japan Cup and do well again in front of all these supporters. It’s incredible,” said Lozano. “No matter how many times we come here to race it never disappoints and it was hard today, but we had a good group together with Antonio and Sam and I always felt like we were going to make it.”

“There was the usual early breakaway, but it didn’t last too long and you know that the attacks are going to keep coming anyway. The second half of the race is always explosive. With two laps to go it was clear that we wouldn’t catch the front group, so we continued to work to finish as strongly as possible – and what a reception we received from Novo Nordisk Japan at the end. Amazing way to end the season.”
