It’s important to acknowledge that diabetes is a challenge and can be tough at times but it should never define you as an athlete or person.

PROFILE

New to Team Novo Nordisk for 2026 is exciting young Australian talent Donovan Mackie who joins after impressing at his second Talent ID camp appearance in July 2025.

The 18-year-old Aussie first came to the attention of TNN in 2024 and went on to achieve some impressive one day results racing in Europe as an U19 including four victories in 2025 including wins at Kooigem and Torhout-Rozveld in Belgium.

Like many TNN athletes Mackie enjoyed an active childhood and played many sports including mountain biking from a young age before switching to the road and track in his early teens.

At the age of ten Mackie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and was devastated at the news as he immediately thought he would have to give up playing sports. After some initial difficulties Mackie soon discovered that leading an active lifestyle would help his diabetes management and that he wouldn’t have to give up sports after all.

Mackie started racing seriously at U17 level and competed also in Cyclocross as well as road racing and has amassed plenty of racing experience both in Europe and Australia for someone so young.

Off the bike Mackie enjoys camping, hiking and spending time with family and friends.
