Team Novo Nordisk Closes the 2026 Season at the Japan Cup

15 October 2026

Utsunomiya, Japan, 18 October 2026: Team Novo Nordisk heads to the Japan Cup for the final race of the 2026 season, looking to finish the year on a high.

The Japan Cup is a fixture on the calendar for the team, and a unique one. The race is held on the demanding hilly circuit in Utsunomiya, in front of some of the biggest and most passionate crowds in cycling. It is also a special weekend off the bike, as the team joins its sponsor Novo Nordisk for a series of activities in Japan.

“Here we are at the last race of the season – and I almost have to pinch myself to believe that 2026 has passed so quickly!” said General Manager Vassili Davidenko. “It’s been a consistent season for us in terms of performance and I expect the guys to go all out at the Utsunomiya Japan Cup this weekend to really end the year on a high note.”

The hilly course plays to the strengths of David Lozano, who has a strong record at the race. “Traditionally this is David’s race, he always goes well here and the hilly course suits him very well,” said Davidenko. “With Filippo alongside him we have good options and it’s going to be a positive experience for our young pros JuanJo and Lucas.”

Lozano will be backed by Filippo Ridolfo, giving the team two options for the finale. Young professionals Juan Jose Lopez and Lucas Terrier will gain valuable experience in one of the most distinctive races of the year.

“As usual it’s going to be exciting to race in front of the amazing crowds in Japan and particularly special to be involved in the amazing activities with our sponsor Novo Nordisk,” Davidenko added. “It’s a unique race with a unique atmosphere and I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for the team to perform at the weekend. Let’s go.”
