Lozano in the break in Quebec signals positive return to Canada for TNN

09 September 2023

After winning the mountains jersey at last weeks Maryland Classic, Spanish climber David Lozano came into the GP de Quebec in form and with confidence, and a strong showing in todays breakaway made for a positive return to Canadian roads for Team Novo Nordisk.

General Manager Vassili Davidenko:

“That’s a great start to a busy weekend of WordTour racing for us. Our main objective was to get up the road in the breakaway and first Filippo, then Peter both tried before David finally made the key move.”

“To ride aggressively from the front in a race as big as GP de Quebec and in front of a big presence from our sponsors Novo Nordisk and Argon 18 was really important for us. Once the breakaway was caught with three laps to go, Peter tried to take up the baton and rode very strongly to cross the line just behind the leading group. Great job by the guys and we need to recover now, ready for Montreal on Sunday.”

David Lozano:

“I’m feeling good at the moment and I said after Maryland last weekend that I’m hitting a kind of late season run of form. I think it’s coming at the right time and today was all about staying at the front in the early stages and being attentive to when the break was going to form.”

“Filippo and Peter were literally the first guys attacking out of neutral and even though they both kept digging the move wasn’t given any rope. At the end of the first lap I attacked close to the line and three guys came with me. It was a great experience to get out front in a race as big as this, let’s hope the legs recover for Sunday now.”
