Muller breaks away and Kopecky sprints to 11th in Denmark

Neo pro Anton Muller took a big step in his Team Novo Nordisk career by making it into the breakaway on stage two of the PostNord Danmark Rundt before the precocious Matyas Kopecky sprinted into 11th.

A super short and fast stage that lasted just over two hours saw the break go after 20km of racing with Frenchman Muller taking responsibility and getting up the road.

“I surprised myself a little bit,” said Muller. “We knew one of us had to get in the break and to be honest it just fell into place that I went at the right time. I’m happy to have been able to show the jersey and gain that experience, but my legs were not so great today and I suffered out there. C’est la vie.”

The move lasted until well into the final laps around Gladsaxe/Bagsværd before the marauding peloton took over and the inevitable sprint unfolded with Kopecky just outside of the top ten.

“There was a touching of wheels on the final corner and I had to deviate to avoid it,” said Kopecky. “That cost me a little in terms of positioning and speed so I dropped a few places and that white jersey is a little further away.”

“All in all we were much better today though, Anton did good to get in the break and we had a nice morale that we need to carry through the next stages. It’s TT day tomorrow and I’ll try my best to gain back as much time as possible.”
